The guidelines are contained in an August 8 DepEd order issued by Education Secretary Leonor Briones. Briones said the guidelines “follow the parameters” laid down in the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002” (Republic Act 9165) and by the Dangerous Drugs Board. Under the guidelines, random drug testing for students is considered by the government as a health issue and “aims to provide appropriate interventions to those who will be tested positive for dangerous drug use, which will help the student stop further use and/or abuse of the substance.”
